The ekaterra Wellbeing Pact

Achieving great things takes hard work and courage. It’s rarely easy – which is why we have a Wellbeing Pact. The more we nourish our collective wellbeing, the more we’ll all get out of life. Feeling a sense of wellbeing helps deliver great work. We’ll make a bigger collective difference. This nurtures our wellbeing more.

The ekaterra Wellbeing Pact gives you the structure and flexibility to chart your own course.

Our Wellbeing Pact’s three main principles:

1. We focus

2. We take time

3. We care

Here’s how we bring those to life:

Great benefits, the world over

Work flexibly, thrive professionally and personally. Our reward philosophy is designed to support you when it comes to health, income protection, paid time off and even retirement.

It’s linked to our business strategy and results. So as you become more valuable to the company, you’ll see that reflected in your rewards.

Our benefits vary country-by-country. But wherever you’re based, the way you’re rewarded is externally competitive and internally fair.

You will be offered a reward package which includes a generous holiday entitlement. With a strong focus on the growth of our people, we’ll support your professional development – whether that’s through formal learning programmes, or the broadening of your on-the-job experiences. And thanks to our mentoring programme and wellbeing resources, you’ll always know we’re supporting your life and career.

Career stories

I think this is a great company to work for. I must do – I've stayed here for 31 years! I started my career in food technology, working in a Unilever food factory in the Netherlands. Over the next quarter-century, I enjoyed roles in Research & Development, Marketing, and Procurement – as well as relocating to Switzerland.

In 2015, I became Procurement Director for Tea in Africa, moving to Kenya. Four years later, in 2019, I took the helm of our tea estates in Kenya being the first female Managing Director in the company’s 95 years history.

My current role is the Head of Tea Estates in East Africa I have now a responsibility for over 16000 colleagues in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda. I'm proud to help to build a sustainable, profitable business that brings a better living to people and communities, while caring for the environment we all live in. I'm lucky enough to see first-hand how positive an influence the tea industry is on lives in East Africa. It's one of the many reasons I love to work for ekaterra.

As a child, I really loved ice cream – so I was excited to start my career working on Langnese; like Wall’s, it’s one of Unilever’s ‘Heartbrands’. I’ve progressed to roles such as Brand Manager for Rama spreads; working in Brand Development for Dove Men, and as a Key Account Manager for home & personal care and as a sales manager for Pukka.

When Unilever Tea business became ekaterra, my career hit a new high. All the things I love – my family, doing sports, being out in nature, and drinking tea! – chime with ekaterra’s values. I’ve been able to move to a part-time role, working 80% of standard hours, but still rising to General Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland working on brands such as Pukka, Lipton, Pure Leaf and Eléphant. This is a business that really puts people first.

One of the things I love most about working here is seeing colleagues develop and thrive. And yes I do still love ice cream…but given the choice now, I’d choose a cup of tea for refreshment first!

I began my career as a lawyer, but an interest in medicine led me to retrain as a clinical practitioner, specialising in the use of plants to treat human health.

I joined Pukka in 2016, where I'm currently the Herbal & Sustainability Director. Since 2021 I've also been ekaterra's Health & Wellbeing Director. I'm helping Pukka in the realisation of its purpose “to nurture healthier, happier lives with powerful organic plants,” and the wider ekaterra business in achieving its purpose to “create a world of wellbeing through the regenerative power of plants”.

We're harnessing the wonders of science with the deep wisdom of traditional medical practice. It couldn’t be more aligned with my interests. It's a really fulfilling role, and lets me combine my passion for plants, science, medicine and education. I'm lucky enough to be part of an exceptionally talented team, working to bring about positive change for the health and wellbeing of society.
